This site is a set of static pages. It has no login, no comment form, no shopping basket and no account of any kind, so there is nothing here for a reader to sign up to and nothing to sign out of.

What the pages load

Every page loads its own text, its own stylesheet, its own photographs and its own icon, all served from this domain. There is no advertising network, no social widget, no embedded video, no third party font and no analytics script in the pages. That is a design decision rather than a promise about the future: if a measurement tool is ever added, this page will say which one, what it records and how long it keeps it, before it is added.

Server logs

Like any site, this one is served by a host that keeps ordinary technical logs of requests, which include the requesting address and are used to keep the service running and to deal with abuse. The desk does not use those logs to build a profile of a reader and does not combine them with anything else.

Email

If you write to the desk, the message and the address it came from are kept while the exchange is useful, for instance while a correction is being checked and applied, and are then deleted. Nothing sent to that address is added to a mailing list, and there is no mailing list to be added to. Correspondence is never published, and a correction taken from a message is used as a fact, not as a quotation with a name attached.

Your rights, and how to use them

Under the United Kingdom and European data protection rules you can ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, and ask for it to be deleted. In practice, on this site, that means the contents of an email exchange, because there is nothing else. Write to the contact address and say what you want; the answer will not take long, because there is very little to look through.
